Roger B. Porter
Roger B. Porter is IBM Professor of Business and Government and the Master of Dunster House at Harvard University. He is also a Senior Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and Faculty Chairman of Harvard's Program for Senior Managers in Government. His teaching and research focus on the relationship between business and government, strategic management, and domestic and international economic policy.
Mr. Porter has served for more than a decade in senior economic policy positions in the Ford, Reagan, and Bush White Houses. In the Bush White House, he served as Assistant to the President for Economic and Domestic Policy from 1989 to 1993.
From 1985 to 1989, Mr. Porter was Professor of Business and Government at Harvard University and Faculty Chairman of the Program for Senior Managers in Government.
In the Reagan White House, Mr. Porter served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Office of Policy Development. He also served as Executive Secretary of the Economic Policy Council and as Counselor to the Secretary of the Treasury. He was Executive Secretary of the Cabinet Council on Economic Affairs from 1981 to 1985.
In the Ford White House, Mr. Porter was a White House Fellow from 1974 to 1975, joining the White House staff in August 1974. He was appointed Special Assistant to the President and served as Executive Secretary of the President's Economic Policy Board.
Mr. Porter received his B.A. degree from Brigham Young University and was selected as a Rhodes Scholar and Woodrow Wilson Fellow, receiving his B.Phil. degree from Oxford University. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard.
Mr. Porter has taught government and economics at Harvard University and Oxford University, and has been on the faculty at Harvard since 1977. He is the author of several books, including Presidential Decision Making, and numerous articles.
He has served on the board of directors or as a consultant to more than a dozen major U.S. corporations.
He is a member of the President's Commission on White House Fellowships, a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, a member of the board of directors of the White House Historical Association, and a member of the advisory boards of the George Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, the European Institute, the Center for Presidential Studies, and the American Council for Capital Formation Center for Policy Research.
