“It’s hard to argue against this narrative, not knowing what would have happened had cooler heads prevailed. But Sheila C. Bair, former chairwoman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, is well positioned to question the dogma of the bailout brigade. … As one of the main participants in the battles surrounding the rescues, and perhaps the coolest head in attendance, Ms. Bair provides some straight talk that represents an important piece of history and a rebuttal to the conventional wisdom…” – Gretchen Morgenson of The New York Times
The Honorable Sheila C. Bair, a speaker at The Washington Campus, was Chairman of the FDIC from 2006 to 2011. Previously, she served as Dean’s Professor of Financial Regulatory Policy at the University of Massachusetts, Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Senior Vice President for Government Relations of the New York Stock Exchange, Commissioner and Acting Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and as a top adviser to former Senate Majority Leader Robert Dole. Ms. Bair now works on financial policy issues as a Senior Advisor to the Pew Charitable Trusts, and as Chairman of the Systemic Risk Council. She writes a regular column for Fortune magazine.
