Energy, The Environment, and Sustainability:  Business, Science and Public Policy

In this challenging three-day program, participants will learn about issues in public policy as they relate to Energy and Environmental Sustainability. Participants will become uniquely suited to lead their organization into the green future as they develop a keen understanding of the political dynamics in Energy and Environmental Sustainability and the impact future legislation will have on business.

During the course of the program, participants will be introduced to the people, agencies and organizations involved in formulating Federal energy, environmental and sustainability policy.  They will meet with current and former government officials, journalists, advocacy experts and representatives from non-governmental organizations to learn how policy decisions are made, who holds the decision-making power, and how external constituencies work to influence the policy debate and outcomes.  From legislative mandates to new government regulations and funding opportunities, the Federal government has a tremendous impact on innovation, opportunities and challenges that those in the energy, environmental, chemical, manufacturing, and natural resources sectors face.

Participants will walk the halls of Congress, visit key agencies, and meet with Washington-insiders to discuss a range of topics, including:

    • Decision Making in the Executive and Legislative Branches
    • The Federal Budget:  Funding Opportunities and Priorities for Energy and the Environment
    • Opportunities Created by the Stimulus Package
    • Cap-and-Trade, Carbon Taxes, and Carbon Reduction
    • Energy Supply and Security
    • The Federal Regulatory Process:  Changes Ahead at the EPA
    • The Role of NGO's in Climate Change and Environmental Policy
    • Advocacy Tools, Tactics and Strategies
